Racing Story
Growing up with a world-class track such as Road America in his backyard and inspired by his father’s racing experience in Formula Fords, Alastair fell in love with every facet of motorsport from a young age. As his passion grew from a collection of matchbox cars, Alastair’s father enrolled him in a local karting class where he earned a license and began racing with his brother on the weekends. Following his father’s death from ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) in 2011, Alastair kept karting and following his passion for everything automotive. Years later, in 2018, Alastair visited DirtFish rally school where he first felt the thrill of sliding on gravel in a Subaru WRX STI. Leaving that experience as a racing addict, Alastair decided to complete his academic career before pursuing a professional racing career. After graduating from Lake Forest College, Alastair began training with Team O’Neil rally school before competing in his debut rally season in a Fiesta ST, while also making a name for himself in Nitrocross NEXT where he began competing in a OMSE SuperCar Lite.
FAST FORWARD to a family affair…
Today, both Alastair and his brother, Gordon Scully, race to be the best in their respective fields. While Alastair began his motorsports career playing in the dirt and mastering the art of control while pushing flat out on low-grip surfaces, Gordon is a force to be reckoned with on road courses, beginning his journey in Formula 1600, climbing the ranks to a USF 2000 debut in 2023, and now competing in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge in the GS class. Despite nearly opposite motorsport disciplines, the two remain incredibly close, bonding over their love of motorsports and intrinsic desire to be among the best. The presence of “brotherly love” is a clear driving force for each driver, but each has a tremendous level of respect for the other’s abilities and disciplines. Alastair can frequently be seen alongside Gordon at his races standing on pit-wall or listening intently while de-briefing the session, and Gordon has done the same for Alastair, serving as his spotter, coach, and integral part of the team during Alastair’s Nitrocross debut season. The unstoppable pairing is encouraged by their mother, Lisa Scully, who serves as Alastair’s manager for Nitrocross and the brothers’ #1 fan on and off the track. When asked if she ever thought that both of her sons would turn out to be racing drivers, Lisa replied, “Well… they did play with matchbox cars more than most other children… but I never saw this one coming.”
